3rd level students (full time) studying - in one of the disciplines on the Highly Skilled Occupations list - outside the State in an approved/accredited academic institution undertaking –
(i) waged short term employment / internship / job placement for beneficial experience;
(ii) waged short term employment / internship / job placement for beneficial experience as an integral part of their studies where the wage / financial support is provided by the sending academic institution (otherwise contact the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation - http://www.djei.ie/labour/workpermits/internships.htm)
Note: Medical internships and unwaged / unfunded internships excluded.
- Where the employment/internship/job placement is beneficial rather than integral, a short term (15-90 consecutive calendar days) contract only will be permitted and just one such application will be allowed per person in a 12 month period.
- Where employment/internship/job placement is an integral part of the course a longer term contract will be permitted but on condition that (i) an agreement is in place between the overseas approved/accredited academic institution and the Irish based employer/academic institution and (ii) wage/financial support is being provided by the academic institution.
- The terms and conditions of employment, including level of salary/financial support, benefits in kind and so on must be equivalent to any similar employment situation in the host body.
