INIS mission statement

The Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) will continue to implement government, European Union and international commitments in relation to asylum, immigration and citizenship matters in addition to updating, as necessary, the legislative base in this area, enhancing a whole of Government approach.

How INIS works

INIS is responsible for administering the functions of the Minister for Justice and Equality in relation to asylum, immigration (including visas) and citizenship matters.

INIS also facilitates a whole of government approach to immigration and asylum issues which enables a more efficient service to be provided.

INIS is structured around a number of key areas, in particular immigration, citizenship and asylum protection services.

We also maintain close contact with the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB in relation to many aspects of work.
