Register as a doctor in Ireland

Go to Burgh Quay Registration Office to register in person, if you live in Dublin City or county. You must also book an appointment online before you visit.

Register at a regional office if you live outside Dublin. You cannot register at Burgh Quay in Dublin.

How to register or renew

Bring the following documents with you when you go to register for the first time or to renew your registration:

  • Valid passport
  • Current Certificate of Registration from the Medical Council
  • Valid Employment Permit, ie if you are starting an employment contract with a public or private hospital
  • Atypical Working Scheme Letter of Approval if your engaged by an Agency, ie a locum doctor not directly paid or employed by a hospital or health facility (public or private)
