You can apply for protection in Ireland if you arrive here and cannot return to your home country because you fear persecution.
To claim asylum you must be in Ireland and submit an application. The application process has several steps and may take weeks or months to complete.
When a decision about your application is made, you will be told the result & informed about next steps. This may include a grant of refugee status, the opportunity to appeal or repatriation where appropriate.
While your application is being reviewed, you'll be given a safe place to stay and access to basic services. This includes food and healthcare, as well as legal services for your application.
