• 28/11/2003   McDowell announces retirement of Chairperson of the Refugee Appeals Tribunal and appointment of new Chairperson
  The Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Mr Michael McDowell T.D., today announced that the Chairperson of the Refugee Appeals Tribunal, Mr P J Farrell has informed him of his intention to retire from his position on 2 December 2003 to pursue other legal and management activities.
• 19/11/2003   Mc Dowell meets UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Ruud Lubbers
  The Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Michael McDowell T.D., held discussions in Dublin today with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Ruud Lubbers. High Commissioner Lubbers was visiting Ireland for a series of engagements including discussions with members of the Government on Ireland's forthcoming Presidency of the European Union.

  The Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Mr. Michael McDowell T.D. today announced that 14 organisations/groups are to receive funding under the European Refugee Fund (ERF) 2003 for projects related to the reception of asylum seekers, integration of refugees and voluntary repatriation.
• 12/09/2003   McDowell announces the commencement of extensive amendments to Refugee Act 1996 with effect from 15 September 2003
  The Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Mr Michael McDowell TD, today announced that on Monday next, 15 September, the extensive amendments to the Refugee Act 1996 made by the recent Immigration Act will be coming into full operation.
