Minister Stanton announces projects under the Communities Integration Fund

  • Over 120 Local Community Projects to promote the integration of migrants to receive grants from the Communities Integration Fund
  • €500,000 funding to be allocated under Communities Integration Fund
  • Grants of up to €5,000 will be allocated to organisations for activities to support the integration of migrants in our communities

13 June 2017

Mr. David Stanton, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Justice and Equality with special responsibility for Equality, Immigration and Integration, today announced the projects that will receive funding under the €500,000 Communities Integration Fund. 129 organisations nationwide will receive grants of up to €5,000 each for activities to support the integration of migrants within our communities.

Announcing the projects the Minister said:

"I firmly believe that local community actions are key to integration. We want to support communities to play their part in making sure that migrants can play a full role in Irish society. We want to foster a sense of belonging among our migrant communities, such that all of us can experience the benefits of diversity. Activity at the local level is essential to achieving this. I am very pleased that we are able to support such a broad range of innovative projects and I wish them every success."

Projects selected include:

  • Intercultural festivals and events
  • Initiatives to promote migrant participation in community sports
  • Local anti-racism actions
  • Youth and family resources
  • Schools based integration projects
  • Local supports for newly arrived migrants
  • And many more

The projects, which were selected following an open Call for Proposals, will take place in 2017. Minister of State Stanton hosted an event in Dublin to mark the announcement on 13 June 2017. Representatives of organisations selected for funding were in attendance.

Notes for Editors

The Communities Integration Fund was launched by Minister of State David Stanton on 7 February 2017 to coincide with the launch of the Government’s new 4 year Migrant Integration Strategy (PDF 200KB).

A total fund of €500,000 was made available in 2017 for small scale community based projects to promote the integration of migrants. The maximum grant size was €5,000.

300 applications were received and assessed by the Office for the Promotion of Migrant Integration against the published call criteria. On the basis of this assessment, 129 projects were selected for funding. A full list of the projects selected is below.
