The Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Mr Dermot Ahern T.D., has today welcomed the publication of the Garda Inspectorate's latest report which reviews resource allocation in the Garda Síochána.
The report examines how Gardaí are currently allocated to duty and makes a number of recommendations on how rostering can be improved. The key findings of the report are that:
· Garda Management can strengthen their systems for tracking the demand for policing services; and
· Garda rosters can be improved to respond more effectively to that fluctuating demand and to take better account of the health and safety requirements of Gardaí.
Minister Ahern said: "This report is all about the core service of the Garda Síochána - in particular uniformed Gardaí patrolling our streets and communities. I welcome the recommendations of the Inspectorate which aim to improve the service to the public and the working conditions of frontline Gardaí.
The Garda Commissioner is preparing to implement a range of improvements to resource allocation systems and I will work with him and all concerned to deliver an even better policing service for communities across the country."
